How I got here.
Economics, then venture capital, then deals — with a habit of building things picked up along the way.
The story
I studied Economics at Bath, and spent my placement year working for a venture fund in Palo Alto — from the UK, on California hours. It was an odd rhythm, but a brilliant introduction: early-stage diligence, investment memos, and a lot of listening to founders explain what they were building and why anyone should care.
That set the direction. After graduating I joined NoBa Capital, an early-stage fund in London, sourcing and evaluating companies across the future-of-work space and working closely with the portfolio. It was hands-on in the way early-stage investing should be.
I now work in Transaction Services at Interpath, where I run financial due diligence on buy-side and sell-side transactions — picking apart trading performance, earnings quality and working capital to work out what a business is really worth. It's the same curiosity as venture, applied with considerably more rigour.
The best way to understand what makes a software business work is to try building one yourself.
Which is roughly how the building started. I've used AI-assisted development tools to design and build LeagueMate — a full web app, authentication and database and all — and this site is built the same way. Spending my days assessing companies and my evenings building one has made me better at both.
Away from the desk
A pattern I've noticed: everything I enjoy rewards patience and punishes shortcuts. Which probably explains the job, and definitely explains the golf.
Golf
The one I think about most and play best in my head. I'm firmly down the marginal-gains rabbit hole — swing changes that take three months to stop feeling wrong, and an unshakeable conviction that this is the season it all clicks.
Tennis
Where the competitive streak goes. Faster feedback than golf and considerably more satisfying when it goes right.
Running
The opposite appeal entirely — no technique to overthink, no opponent, just the bit of the week where the only variable is whether I actually go.
Fantasy football
Taken far more seriously than it deserves. Serious enough that I built an app to keep score of the league's long-running forfeit, which tells you most of what you need to know about both the league and me.
AI and building things
A genuine obsession at this point. I'm interested in what these tools let someone non-technical actually finish and ship — and the fastest way to find out is to keep building things with them.
